In this treatise the author uses the term mela (genus) in place of Samsthana (ṭhāṭa) used in his Hṛdaya-Kautuka. In the former work, he classifies the parent-scales into eleven melas, according to Śuddha or Vikrita-notes used in the structure of the melodies.
