We have another system of classification, into śuddha and vikṛta jātis (species) according to the use made of śuddha (pure, natural, normal) notes, or vikṛta (chromatic) notes. This is referred to both in Bharata (Kāvya-mālā edition, p. 308) and in the Saṅgita-ratnākara (Poona edition p. 74-76).
