The study of these sculptures of Bôrôbudûr is a liberal art-education in itself. Is it too much to hope, when at some future time a reasonable and intelligent artistic policy is established in India, both as regards school of art work and general education, that reproductions of these classics of Indian art¹ may be put before Indian students instead of European casts from "the antique"; and that the libraries of every college and high school may have illustrations of them, to teach coming generations of Indians that they too have an art for which they should feel proud and reverently thankful, despised and neglected though it may be in the ignorance and folly of the present one?
