Pl. VII, B, from the Amarâvatî sculptures, shows a town gateway built of brick, with a wooden guard-house over it of the same description as that given in Pl. VI. This is the prototype of later Indian fortress-gateways like that of the Purana Kîla at Delhi (Pl. VII, C), and the Hâthî Pôl of Akbar’s Fort at Agra.
