A "Brahmâ" shrine which the Mânasâra directs to be placed at the meeting of the four crossways in the centre of the village (see fig. 4) is a cell, square in plan, with its walls fronting the four cardinal points, and an entrance on each side. The sectarian worship to which it is devoted may be Buddhist, Jain, Vaishnavaite, or Saivaite; in itself it is only a cosmic symbol which is common to all sects.
