Among the writers subsequent to Kautilya, sage Mānasāra (C. 450 A.D. – 550 A.D.) is probably the foremost. He discusses the forts of different orders and thus numerically more comprehensive than Kautilya. He grades the important strategic places in a kingdom as follows:
