The Nāgārjunikoṇḍa reliefs (Hackin, op. cit., Pls. V–VIII) show the trend which is most peculiar to this site. An altogether heavy physique (see, however, the majority of figures in Amarāvatī, where a heavily built torso is supported by legs of slender elegance) is employed, and the linear element recedes in the Nāgārjunikoṇḍa reliefs for the sake of a densely packed plastic contiguity.
