v1.c5.s2.42
The union of Sun and Moon on the new moon day is known as the cause of creation (ṛtu) of every form of life in the world. On a new moon day, the moon enters the sun ('Jaiminīya Upaniṣad Brāhmaṇa', I. 13. 6.). The Vāstu is the site where this union takes place, and goes on taking place so long as existence (vastu) continues. It is moreover not only the place of this particular union of the Sun and Moon but also of the larger cyclical celebrations which occur at recurrent eclipses.
