The Vāstupuruṣamaṇḍala is the magic diagram (yantra) and the form (rūpa) of the Vāstupuruṣa (‘Vāstuvidhāna’ of Nārada, VIII. 26-32). It is his body (śarīra) and a bodily device (śarīra yantra) by which those who have the requisite knowledge attain the best results in temple building. It is laid out in tabular notation as man and site (naraprastara, vāstuprastara; ib., 29).
