A descent, a down going, further and further remote from perfection is the process of this world-age. The initial disintegration from which the world has its beginning is known not only as a dismemberment but also as a descent, or falling off, from the Supreme Principle and a coming to earth. This is told in the many versions of the story of the coming to earth of the Vāstupuruṣa.²¹
