⁴² The Sthapati, the master builder, himself a Śilpin, is the Guru of the three other classes of Śilpins, the Sūtragrāhin, Vardhakin and Takṣaka. In the performance of certain architectural rites the Sthapati may officiate as priest ('Mānasāra', VIII.). In these, as well as other, prescriptions there is no absolute or dead uniformity in Vāstuśāstra (see Part I. p. 9). The Śilpin is the Kartṛ in relation to the Kāraka, the patron.
