The dolmen shape raised on a socle or base (adhiṣṭhāna) can be recognised in the flat roofed temple. It remains, however, the nucleus, the sanctuary, of the temples with high superstructures whose walls are rich in buttresses and manifold sculptured images. They always enclose its small cubical inner space, unbroken by any opening, except the entrance.⁶⁹
