v1.c8.s7.51

¹¹³ The underground situation of the place of greatest sanctity has been explained as a protective measure from the Mohammedans, as all the temples where it is so placed, were built when the Muslims had entered India. Apart from the fact, that the vast majority of preserved Hindu temples dates from these centuries, (10th to 12th), the presence of the Svayambhū Liṅga, the natural Omphalos, disproves the assumption.
