v1.c9.s2.5
On the earlier temples, from about the 6th century, the distinction between pyramidal and curvilinear superstructure of this type is one of degrees only. The sides bulge but little (Temple IX, etc., Aihole) or else, on the temples of another provincial variety in its later phases (Liṅgarāj Temple, Bhuvaneśvar, Orissa), the Sikhara has almost perpendicular, straight sides which curve in towards the shoulder course only of this truncated superstructure.
