v2.c11.s1.40
While the Mūlamantra, the ‘root-mantra’, the rhythmic formula of the main divinity, is recited the devotee passes both his hands three or seven times over the whole body from the feet to the head and from the head to the feet (vyāpaka-nyāsa). The whole body and its parts, the hand and the fingers, from the thumb to each of the fingers (kara-nyāsa) and also each of their phalanges are touched and quickened thereby as living seats of God. Various parts of the body are thus assigned to different divinities.¹¹
