v2.c11.s1.78
The Tāla system, in the Sapta and Aṣṭa-tāla types, is relevant, with regard to the total height only. Their several proportions however are not regulated by it. The Tāla or face length is not the module of these images.³⁰ Their proportions are based on number, which is correlated to the main divisions of the body. The module is the aṅgula; the measures of the single division are its multiples. At the same time,—excluding the height of the face itself—the organic proportions of the Navatāla type are adhered to (see Chart). Thus the less generally valid, the less perfect proportions are admissible for images lower down in the hierarchy of the images; they are fit for dwarf and child incarnations.
