v2.c11.s6.18

¹³³ Apsarās are the celestial dancers in Indra’s heaven (Pls. LXVIII, XL). Their name signifies “moving in the water”, in the celestial vapour; they are the movement in the atmosphere while the Yakṣiṇīs are the movement in the trees. The Apsarās are the consorts of the Gandharvas and are also known as Surāṅanās or celestial damsels (cf. Surasundarī). The ‘Tantrarāja Tantra’, IV. 58-70, tells how to control Apsarā and Yakṣiṇī.
