It is in this sense that a further group of beauteous Śaktis is described as Maids (paricārikā) and others are called Messengers (dūtī) of the Transcendental Power, the Mahā-Śakti. In their lotus-hands they carry, each of them, a ‘mudrā’, a raiment, a mirror and various kinds of vessels¹²⁹ (Pls. XI, XII, XIV, XLI, LI).
