¹⁸⁵ In Bedsa, Karli, Nasik, etc. The thin corner posts are replaced by the figures of Gaṇas who act as Karyatids; their bodies are placed slantingly like brackets; the straight corner posts disappear. This change can be seen on the capitals of pillars of one and the same cave, the Vihāra 3, in Nasik. The same type of Āmalaka with the figures of Gaṇas, etc. as ‘struts’ i.e., ‘corners’ of the casket occurs in Ajaṇṭā, Caves I and II, whereas in cave XXVI, Yakṣiṇīs with their trees act as struts.
