v2.c11.s8.41

¹⁸⁶ South Indian texts know the capital as Bodhikā or Poṭikā (‘Kāśyapaśilpa’, IX. 1 f). The wrongly called ‘cushion’ capital of the pillars in the caves of Bādāmī (6th century), the Dhumar Leṇa in Ellora and the Śiva temple in Elephanta (7th century) consists of an Āmalaka without any ‘casket’. More than one Āmalaka forms the capital of the Iron pillar in Delhi (415 A.D.). Cf. the proportion of the Amalasāraka of the pillar, ‘Viṣṇudharmottara’, II. Ch. XXIX.
