v2.c12.56
Eight armed image; some of the arms are broken. The second but lowest pair might have held emblems of Viṣṇu so that this image of Sūrya, the Sun-god, would embrace Brahmā, the presiding divinity of the Sun, Viṣṇu, the presiding divinity of the Moon, and Śiva who presides over the Fire ('Īśānaśivagurudevapaddhati', III, Ch. XII. 27-29). Such an image is a support of a meditation on Sadāśiva and has its place of special importance on a temple of Śiva.
