The small mutilated image of Aruṇa, in the centre of the drapery, near the edge of the pedestal, lies in the vertical axis by which the Kīrttimukha in the crown of Sūrya is linked to the three horses carved on the pedestal, the seat of the chariot of the Sun-god.
