¹ This is the earliest photograph I possess of this interesting piece. It was taken, I think, some seventy-five years ago when the sculpture was unearthed. In a later photograph, reproduced in Foucher's *A.G.-B.G.* vol. II, fig. 437, the two centre figures on the further side of the couch have lost their heads; and in a still later photograph recently supplied by the Calcutta Museum, the figure on the right of the same row has also lost his head, and the right *śāla* tree has been damaged.
