v1.c10.31
At the time the *Laws of Manu* were codified, the profession of dealing in woollen stuffs had so far fallen in repute that it was prohibited to the Brāhmaṇs ( X. 87 ), and the use of such stuffs was assigned to the third class of students in theology ; the first and second wearing antelope skin and woven hemp, ( II. 41 ). The sacrificial strings in the same way were required to be made of cotton, hemp, and wool, for the three classes respectively (II. 44).
