[ 126 ] Allusion has already been made to the forearm guard noticed in the Vedas (*ante* p. [120] ). In the *Mahābhārata*, it is also mentioned, as also a visor,²¹⁴ but there is no name in Sanskrit for shoulder, leg and thigh guards, or other article of defensive equipment. The Marhattas had a large steel gauntlet, but it has no ancient name.
