²³⁴ *Tree and Serpent Worship*, p. 134. In support of this deduction Professor Weber’s conjecture of the Sanskrit word for a snaffle, *Khalīna* (W. takes it for the bridle) being derived from the Greek *Khalinos* may be quoted. But the admission by Arrian of the use of an iron bit, and the fact of reins for horses being mentioned in the *Ṛgveda* are adverse to the theory.
