v2.c16.145

The next sentence begins with a word, the third letter of which Prinsep conjectures it to be a *th*. I find it to be clearly an *m*, and read the word *pachama*. “fifth”, Sanskrit *pañcama*. The 2nd word is *cha* ‘and’, 3rd *dāni*, ‘now’, Sanskrit *idāni*. 4th, *vase*, ‘in the year’, i. e., ‘and now in the fifth year’. Prinsep renders the phrase : “Afterward inclining to charity”, but as *dāni* cannot be the Pāli form of the Sanskrit *dāna*, it is not satisfactory.
