v2.c16.160

“*puva rāja nivesātam pithu-dāga-dambha-nagare nakāsayatta janapade, bhāvanā cha teresavase sataka* :—‘finding no glory in the country which had been the seat of the ancient princes,—a city abounding in envy and hypocrisy,—and reflecting in the year thirteen hundred”—a break follows and leaves us in the dark as to what era (if any) is here alluded to. The Sanskrit of this passage would be :—*apūrva rājanivesanaṃ (?) pṛthunāgaddammanagare nakāsāyatvā janapada bhāvanaśca trayodaśavarṣa śatake*.—After this occurs, the expression *amaradehasa pata* ‘falling of heavenly form’—used to denote the death of a person,—then *barasa*, ‘twelve,’ and the end of the line, *siri pithirajano*, which in Sanskrit will be :—*śrīpṛthvī rājānaḥ (rājā)*. [The line is so corrupt that I cannot venture to suggest amendments; but the interpretation given above appears to me to be very unsatisfactory. The *trayadasa vase*, I feel certain, refers to the thirteenth year of the reign, the word *sataka* which follows being a part of the matter which is lost.]
