v2.c16.s2.139

**Nilagiri:**—Turning now to the third section of the Khaṇḍagiri Range, we have little to record beyond its being a continuation of the rocky wall which girts the town of Bhuvaneśvara on the west and the north-west. It stretches as far as the south-west of the town, and bears the same relation to it which the low hill to the west of Delhi does to that imperial city. Beyond a slight depression there is nothing to make its separation from Khaṇḍagiri, and in fact it is only a part of the latter, named separately only to limit the sanctity of the latter within a narrow compass. It does not rise anywhere above a hundred feet in height and possesses nothing worthy of note to the antiquarian—no temple or building of any age, size or sanctity, nor a single cave which owes its origin to the labour of man, and worthy of notice as a work of art.
