²⁹ I copy the record from Prinsep's plate. name of Virajākṣetra, nor and celebrity for sacrifice. Bhuvaneśvara and its neighbourhood have the nama of Harakṣetra, the abode of Śiva, and not that of his consort Virajā, and it is not at all likely that a man versed in Sanskrit and religious lore, and local knowledge, such as the writer of the record undoubtedly was, would confound two such distant places together. The name Harakṣetra must have been, as it is now, in everybody’s mouth, in the tenth century, and it could not have been called Virajā by an intelligent person.
