v2.c17.106

2. *Prāvaraṇotsava:* The second festival takes place at midday, on the 6th of the waxing moon in the month of Mārgaśirṣa. It is called *Prāvaraṇa Saṣṭhī Yātrā*, and is supposed to be the day when the cold weather fully sets in. On such an occasion the dressing of the divinity with warm clothing is the great requirement, and a large concourse assembles to behold the great Lord of the Universe in his warm garments. As the image of the divinity is a flat piece of stone, the dress is simply placed on the top of it amidst singing and music. In Bengal no rite is celebrated as the counterpart of this festival.
