v2.c17.129

8. *Janmāṣṭamī.* This festival takes place on the 8th of the wane in the month of Bhādra. It is identically the same with what takes place in Bengal and other parts of India to commemorate the anniversary of Kṛṣṇa's birth-day. The day is passed in fasting, and at night an image of Kṛṣṇa is worshipped in the temple. As a purely Vaiṣṇavite festival, it does not excite any enthusiasm among the members of the Saiva sect, but it is worthy of note that it is not neglected.
