Assia Hills. To the south of Yājapur, at a distance of about a mile, the low range of hills, more or less detached, which forms the Eastern Ghats, bears the name of Āssiā alias Ālti hills. It runs in a south-easterly direction in the Ālamgir estate of Pargunnah Ālti, throwing out spurs towards the west and the east. Near the centre of the range, lower than the surrounding heights, there is an open space, which communicates with the plains towards the east. This passage forms, as it were, the key to the fortified places on the peaks. The range is accessible from the village of Bar-canā on the Trunk-Road, and is about 27 miles to the north-east of Cuttack³⁴. The ancient Hindu name of this range is Catus-pitha, Uriya, Cārpuli, the hill of four seats or shrines, so called because four of its peaks are the most prominent. The names of these four peaks are : 1, Muṇḍaka, 2, Udayagiri, 3, Acala-basanta, 4, Barodihī.
