v1.c9.22

It is said that the shrines of Subrahmanya are rather common in South India; but those of Vighnēśvara are even more numerous. Every village, however small has in it an image of Vighnēśvara, with or without a temple to house it in. At the entrances of villages and forts, below pipal trees adjoining villages, on the right side of the entrances into Śiva temples, in the niche which is at the commencement of the innermost prākāra circuit in the temples of Viṣṇu as well as Śiva and also in separate shrines specially constructed in Śiva temples in the south-west corner, the figure of Vighnēśvara is invariably to be seen.
