I am disposed, although with hesitation, to refer to the Kushān period, about the second century after Christ, certain Jain sculptures excavated a few years ago at Dānavulapāḍ in the Cuddapah District, Madras, and associated with large bricks (1'~9″ × 9″ × 4″) of the dimensions of those found in the ruined *stūpas* of the Krishnā (Kistna) District. The images (Figs. 109–10) are carefully modelled, and their style is not inconsistent with the date assumed, but they may be a century or two later. The inscription on the circular base is not dated.
