Several authors concur in the opinion that the most artistic of the reliefs is the great composition depicting the victory of the Good, represented by the goddess Durgā mounted on a lion, over evil personified in the buffalo-headed demon, Mahi-shāsura (Plate XLV). The scene undoubtedly is full of life and movement, and the goddess is a dignified figure. I am inclined to prefer this work to anything at Elūra, but the general effect is not pleasing.
