Among the later caves, the temple or church Cave XIX, which is elaborately carved throughout and has its porch and whole front covered with beautiful sculpture, was considered by Mr. Fergusson to be 'one of the most perfect specimens of Buddhist art in India'. The paintings include many effigies of Buddha (Griffiths, Pl. LXXXIX), and some exquisite panels on the roof of the front aisle, as well as rich floriated patterns on the roofs of the side aisles.
