Behind Vidhurapaṇḍita are three ladies, all of whom are painted with exceptional grace and skill. The one near his right hand has a pathetic expression, which, contrasted with her youthful form, accentuates the mystic effect of the subject. The bangles on her wrists seem to be of ivory or of conch-shell. Such bangles are still in fashion among the primitive tribes of India. The other two ladies are also in a pensive mood, but their features, coiffures, and ornaments suggest the greatest care on the part of the artist for delicacy of finish.
