The *Arthaśāstra* gives a long list of hides and furs.⁴¹ These hides and furs came from North-Western India, eastern Afghanistan and Central Asia. Most of the trade names for those articles have been derived from their places of origin, which are difficult to identify. *Kāntānāvaka* and *Āroha* (Roha near Kabul), Balkh and China were the chief sources of hides and furs.
