Garuḍa remained the device of one class of the silver currency of Western India down to the reign of Skandagupta. Garuḍa on the silver coins is thereomorphic and not therianthropic; it has not got a human face with the bird-body, as is the case on some copper coins of Chandragupta II (Pl. XVI. 8); it has an entire bird body.
