In Class III (Pl. X. 1-6), we have Ku under the arm of the king. In variety A, the legend is Vijitāvaniravanipatiḥ Kumāragupto divaṁ jayati (Pl. XXI. 20); ‘King Kumārgupta, who has conquered the earth, wins the heaven.’ In variety B, the legend is Jayati mahītalaṁ śrī-Kumārguptaḥ and in variety C, it is extended by adding the word sudhanvī¹ at the end; ‘The excellent archer, Kumārgupta conquers the earth.’ On one coin of this variety (Pl. X. 5), recently discovered, there is a beautiful conch on the reverse on the left side. The coins of all these three varieties are generally issued to the standard of 127 grains, though in variety A, we sometimes get some rare coins weighing 130 and 124 grains.
