WHEN this book was originally printed in 1874 but little had been done in respect of Indian Inscriptions; since then, Mr. Fleet and others have added much to what was known, and thus, with the help of the exhaustive reviews of the first edition by Profr. Weber in the “Jenaer Literaturzeitung” and by M. A. Barth in the “Revue Critique”, as well as the opportunities afforded to me by a visit to Java in 1876, I am enabled now to bring out a revised and enlarged edition.
