¹ Dr. Gundert’s labours on Malayāḷam, and more recently, those of Mr. Kittel on Canarese will soon remove this obstacle; a really good Tamiḷ Dictionary is yet, however, to be written. The best now existing is that printed at Pondicherry in 2 vols. 8° (“Par deux missionaires Apostoliques”).
