² Kātyāyanasmṛiti (quoted by Mādhava): Pūrvapaxam svabhāvoktam prāḍvivāko ’bhilekhayet | Pāṇḍulekhena phalake, tataḥ pattram viçodhayet || This passage must be relatively modern.
