For the later regional scripts Ojha adopted the modern names, while Bühler worked out his own system based on the minute classification of the forms. Alberuni's description² of the several Indian writings in the tenth century A.D. was also analysed, but Bühler found it hard to reconcile the various systems given by Alberuni with his own classification. He also quotes from *Lalitavistara*, which enumerates sixty-four scripts, and from two Jaina works, *Samavāyāṅga Sūtra* and *Paṇṇāvaṇā Sūtra*, and rightly says that the fantastic description given by them is hardly consistent with the available evidence.
