590 Pūrṇavarman reigning in Western Magadha. Mentioned by Hiuen Tsang as the last of the descendants of Aśoka, and reinvigorator of the Bodhi tree which Śaśāṅka, king of Karṇasuvarṇa, had tried to destroy. Śaśāṅka being identical with the king of that name who, according to Hiuen Tsang, murdered Rājyavardhana, elder brother of Harsha of Thāṇeśar (A.D. 606), Pūrṇavarman, as his contemporary, must have flourished towards the close of the sixth or beginning of the seventh century A.D.—IA. xiii, 95 ff. Beal’s Si-yu-ki, ii, 118.
