Kāśyapa or Kāśya Mātaṅga, a Buddhist teacher, visits China at the invitation of the Emperor Ming-ti (A.D. 58–75). He is followed later in the same year by Fa-lan, like himself a Śramaṇa of Central India, apparently called Gobharaṇa or Bhāraṇa by the Tibetans. Fa-lan assisted Mātaṅga in his translation of the Sūtra of Forty-two sections, and on the latter's death shortly afterwards, translated five Buddhist works between A.D. 68 and 70.—BN. 379, 380.
