¹ The symmetry of Proto-Indian signs is one of the characteristics of the script. It is in harmony with the artistic sense of its users, so abundantly exemplified in their glyptic designs on these very seals. In the modification of signs this symmetrical principle was continued, each equal portion (whether ½ or ⅓) of the sign receiving the same modifying strokes. See Tables V, XV, XIII, LXXIV, LXXV, LXXVI, CII, CVII.
