This task was naturally rendered easier at both Mohenjo-daro and Harappa by the absence of awkward gradients in the flat alluvial plain upon which both were built, and though the levels of these cities were always steadily rising, this does not seem to have presented much difficulty. Where it was found necessary to raise the buildings on mud-brick platforms to keep them out of the reach of floods, the effect must have been rather uneven, but this was probably scarcely noticeable over a wide area.
