No evidence has as yet come to light to show that the Indus Valley people used foundation deposits, although this custom was very prevalent in Babylonia and in Egypt. It is unfortunate that nothing of this kind has been discovered at Mohenjo-daro and Harappa, for where such deposits have been unearthed elsewhere they have greatly assisted the excavator to fix the date or history of a building. If only longer inscriptions than those which appear on the seals had come to light in the Indus valley, they might have supplied welcome information.
